Thompson & Sons Ltd., Sunderland, Yard No.549, at their North Sands yard. 5,973 GRT, 9,405 DWT. 405' 0" LBP, 54' 9½" Breadth, 32' 10¾" Moulded Depth. Powered by a triple expansion steam engine (28",46" & 76" x 51") manufactured by Palmers Shipbuilding and Iron Co. Ltd., Newcastle, geared to a single screw shaft. 2,905 hp giving a service speed of 10 knots. 9 main oil holds with 4 summer tanks on each side connected by expansion trunking. Single pump room with 2 x steam reciprocating pumps, 648 t.w./hr. discharge rate, approx. Went through WWII without damage and in 1952 she was sold to the Vivalet Shipping & Trading Co. S.A. of Panama and renamed Duchess. In 1959 she completed her final commercial voyage arring at Eastham on the 21st of January. 23.1.1959 Sold to the Indian Trading Company of Leichtenstein for demolition, thence to Societa Cantiera di Portovenero, Italy. 9.2.1959 Arrived at La Spezia for breaking. 10.3.1959 Work Commenced. |
