Waikare

The last of Union Company's 'slow greens' to be completed, the Waikare, was intended for the service to Indonesia, Malaysia and India and had refrigerated capacity. Seen arriving at Lyttelton assisted by Lyttelton II. Completed in 1958 she was sold in 1975 and renamed Maldive Sailor and on 19 June 1977 collided with the tanker Japan Daisy off Cape Comorin and later sank.
