KAREPO

The Union Steam Ship Company vessel KAREPO on her trials off Hong Kong in 1964. The ship was built by the TAIKOO DOCKYARD & ENGINEERING Co, HONG KONG Ltd. The KAREPO and her sister KARETU were built at the same time to replace older vessels on the Trans-Tasman trade. In her later life under Union Co she and the KARETU were employed on the coal run between Westport and Portland, Whangarei.She was sold in 1978 and continued trading until 1986 when she was sent to the breakers.
