Portuguese cargo liner SOFALA, imo 5533304/160,92m/7.956gt, completed 10/1927 as ALLER by Bremer Vulcan, Vegesack, for Nordeutscher Lloyd, Bremen, for its Australia/Far Eastern traffic, Homeward bound, when war was declared, she was interned in Lourenço Marques, Mozambique, together with other German vessels, where she remained until being purchased by Companhia Nacional de Navegação Sarl, Lisbon and registered at Lisbon on the 04/09/1943. Since then she was trading regularly between Portugal and its West and East Africa Territories. She made one or another trip to Mormugao, Goa, and Dili, Timor.
