CALEDONIA |
CALEDONIA was completed in 1948 by the Fairfield yard in Glasgow for Anchor Line. She was the third of three passenger/ cargo liners, the other two, CIRCASSIA and CILICIA having been built in 1937/ 38. CALEDONIA continued until 1965 when she was withdrawn from service and this shot was taken in Glasgow in November 1965 after she completed her last voyage. She then became a floating hostel in Amsterdam until being towed to Hamburg for scrap in 1970. CILICIA went much the same way. As JAN BACKX she was a dock workers hostel in Rotterdam until being scrapped as late as 1980. She was renamed CILICIA for her final voyage I believe. |
