Eastern Trader |
During WW2 Japan, like the allies, had a war-emergency shipbuilding program. Their equivalent of the Liberty ship was the type 2A of which 131 were built. When this photo was taken in Madras in 1964 the "Eastern Trader" was one of the last still trading. She was built as the "Enshu Maru" in 1945 and was broken up in Kaohsiung in 1967. Her appearance is pretty much as built and she even retains some of the original lattice derricks. |
