The Union Steam Ship Co Inter-Island Steamer Express vessel MAORI on the Wellington Harbour Board floating dock c1960. The ship was built by Vickers-Armstrongs, Ltd, Newcastle in 1953. The floating dock was built by Messrs Swan, Hunter and Wigham Richardson Ltd, Wallsend-on-Tyne, England. The dock was towed out to NZ arriving at Wellington in December 1931, covering a distance of 14,109 miles in 167 days. The dock had a lifting capacity of 17,000 tons. |
