Porto di Genova

Circa 1969, Port of Genova (Genoa), Italy. The road, or pier, that leads to the lighthouse in the centre of the image is the Molo Giano (Giano Wharf). The lighthouse, formerly known as the 'Pilots Tower' still stands. The crude oil tanker to the right side is under repair, & is the: 'GEORGE F. GETTY' - IMO 5128687 Launched on 08/07/1956, and completed during January 1957 by Chantiers D'Alantique, St. Nazaire, France (B17) 33,704 g.t. & 57,145 dwt., as: 'George F. Getty', until sold to Taiwan for demolition. Arrived at Kaohsiung on 16/05/1975. There are four berthed tugs in view, all seem to have the livery and funnel colours of the Genovese company Rimorchiatori Riuniti. The right hand tug is the 'Torregrande'. Immediately to the right of the tanker is a 'leading light' tower, used to guide ships into this harbour at night or in poor visibility. Looking at Google maps, it seems to have been demolished, probably due to the fact that the entire area is now a marina. To the far right side, behind the tanker, and above the light tower, is a structure with distinctive corner architecture & supporting arches. Google maps shows its masses of windows to be glazed. It is a huge building of sorts, but I cannot find out its exact function. Scanned from a slide. From the collection of the late Niels Anker Larsen, former Danish Merchant Navy Radio Officer.
