Me and "my" "Olau Britannia"
Me and "my" "Olau Britannia"
I started my maritime career in the TT-Line/Olau-Group. Olau-Line was active between Vlissingen (Netherlands) and Sheerness (U.K.). Olau was a special thing in the English Channel: It was the only German ferry operator in this area.
A lot of people said that Olau was the best company in the English Channel. Olau ships won the British "AA five star award" every year.
I worked as a ship mechanic on the "Olau Britannia". Today this ferry is named "SNAV Lazio". I will never forget my time on this 33336 ton ferry. I hope that "my" "Britannia" will still have a long live in ferry business!
1994 Olau closed. I left the "Olau Britannia" in the port of Vlissingen. My last view back was sad. More than 750 people lost their jobs. I saw the "Britannia" and couldn´t believe this rapide end. I never came back to Vlissingen...
This picture shows me on a regular trip to Sheerness, one month before Olau was closed forever.
