BANCKERT
BANCKERT
Banckert was a Admiralen class destroyer. Banckert was in action off Kangean against Japanese bombers on 4 February 1942. She also took part in the Allied sortie against the Japanese invasion convoy bound for Palembang on February 15th, during which she took off the entire crew of the beached HrMs Van Ghent. She was damaged at Surabaya during Japanese aerial attacks on 24 and 28 February. HrMs Banckert (Luitenant ter zee 1 klasse (Lt.Cdr.) Lambert Johan Goslings) was not seaworthy and unable to escape the Japanese advence and was scuttled on 2 March along with HrMs Witte de With and USS Stewart. Banckert's wreck was raised by the Japanese, who intended to commission her as Patrolboat 106, but the repairs were never completed. She was sunk as targetship during gunnery excercises in Madura Strait in September 1949.
