WAIKARE

The Union Steam Ship Company vessel WAIKARE undergoing sea trials. Built in 1958 by A. Stephen & Sons Ltd, Linthouse, Glasgow. Built to operate on the NZ, Indonisia, Malaysia and India trade. In 1965 she was put on the South Island of NZ - Melbourne run. In 1975 she was sold to Maldives Shipping Ltd and renamed MALDIVE SAILOR. In 1977 she was in collision with the tanker JAPAN DAISY while on passage from Karachi to Colombo and was abandoned sinking
