Kahika |
Union SS Company's Kahika aground on Waikanae Beach near Gisborne.Built by Ailsa S. B. Co in 1902 as Ennerdale. Purchased by Ferdinand Holm for his Maoriland SS Co in 1907 and renamed in 1915 when USS took over the Maoriland company. She was lying off Gisborne on 24 October 1929 when one of the wildest gales experienced in Gisborne drove her ashore. She was refloated by the company tug Terawhiti and towed to Wellington for repairs. |
