PORT VINDEX

The PORT VINDEX near the end of distinguished career. Built in 1943 by Swan, Hunter & Wigham Richardson Ltd,Newcastle. Port Line intended to call her PORT SYDNEY but she was taken over by the Admiralty and commissioned as the aircraft carrier H.M.S VINDEX. After the war the Port Line repurchased the vessel sending her back to her builders to have her completed as a cargo liner. She was demolished in Taiwan in September 1971. PORT VINDEX is seen here at Wellington in 1970.
