ANTONIO TARABOCCHIA, 5.851 tons gross. Length o.a. 457 ft., length b.p. 424 ft., breadth moulded 60 ft., depth to shelter deck 38 ft., loaded draught 25.9 ft. This bulkcarrier, built by Cantieri Riuniti dell'Adriatico to the order of Società di Navigazione per Azioni "Lussino"Trieste, is a prototype of a new design of trampship being developed by her builders, with clear unobstructed holds and machinery aft. She is of the shelterdeck type with sunken forecastle, two tiers of deckhouses amidships and two aft. There are two masthouses and a "goal-post"mast carrying the heavy-lift derrick. The five lower holds and five cargo tweendecks, as well as the space below the midships deckhouse, which is used as cargo space, have a total grain capacity of 571.118 cu.ft. and a bale capacity of 531.975 cu.ft. The largest hold, N. 3, is about 83 ft. in lenght. There are no pillars at the corners of the hatchways, the only support being the ends of the longitudinal centre bulkheads, clear of the hatchway openings. The traverse and longitudinal bulkheads are of corrugated type. The cargo handling gear consists of twelve 5-ton and one 40-ton heavy-lift derricks; the deck machinery is steam driven.Comfortable furnished accomodation is provided foa a crew of fort-one. The main propelling machinery is a CRDA-Sulzer 4-cylinder two-stroke single acting diesel engine developing 3.600 b.h.p. and operating on boiler fuel- The service speed is 13.2 knots. Rgds
