UNION MELBOURNE

The UNION MELBOURNE passes the Pencarrow lighthouse as she heads into the entrance to Wellington Harbour. The Ship was chartered by the Union Steam Ship Co, for their Trans - Tasman cargo service. The charter was for a five year period in 1975 but a lack of cargo caused her to be withdrawn from service in 1978. Union Co, then sub-chartered the vessel to P&O for their Fleetwood - Belfast service until the original charter expired in 1980.
