Panama flag pass/cargo liner NORTH KING, imo 2222653/ 119m/ 4.608tb/ 11kn/ pax ??; 06/1903 completed by Bremer Vulkan, Vegesack, as cargo ship LIEBENFELS for DDG Hansa, Bremen; 01/08/1914 she take refuge and was interned at Charleston, SC, due to the outbreak of the WW1, in order to avoid being attacked and sunk by the enemy; 02/1/1917 with the entry of the U.S. in the conflict, she was immediately seized by the Navy after scuttled and sunk by the German crew; 20/03/1917 she was refloated and meanwhile repaired; 06/04/1917 she was converted into naval transport and renamed USS HOUSTON (AK-1) and handed over to the U.S. Department of the Navy , Washington, DC; 23/03/1922 decommissioned; 27/09/1922NORTH KING, Alaska Portland Packers Association, Portland, OR, mgrs Frank M. Warren; 1929 NORTH KING, Pacific American Fisheries Inc., Bellingham, USA, 1940 NORTH KING, Diana Compañia de Vapores SA, Panama; 1941 chartered by War Shipping Administration, mgrs United States Lines, New York; 1947 NORTH KING, Soc Navegação Luso Panamense, Lda, Lisbon, Panama flag, who converted her into pass/cargo liner; 1956 laid up at Lisbon; 01/06/1957 arrived Osaka for breaking up. Seen at Leixões, assisted by local tugboat VANDOMA, on 1951. (F. Cabral, Oporto).
