Seen Leixões late 60's. PS - This ASCANIUS Leixões call was to forget for me and two office clerks too of Ocean agents Messrs. Garland Laidley & Co., Ltd, Oporto, because for three days and three nights that we were almost unable going to bed in order to prepare new transhipment cargo papers (manifests, Bs / L, etc.) due to ASCANIUS leave the Mersey heading for Leixões to land about 8.000tons of break bulk cargo from Far Eastern ports in favour of the receivers in UK, due to a dock workers strike in the UK late 60's. Some days after that cargo was loaded for account of respective importers into two feeders, Ellerman's MEDITERRANIAN and Comben Longstaff''s CARDIGANBROOK for Birkenhead, It Seems that two others Blue Funnel ships had followed the ASCANIUS for Leixões in order to abandon their cargoes too, but fortunately for me and my colleagues, dockers strike end over, and those ships back to Birkenhead. The documentation was so vast that the captain allowed me to imitate its short signature to sign the documentation to be delivered in the Customs. One thing was good for me and my colleagues, in addition to usual salary and extra hours we received more two months salary.
