AVILA STAR |
A detail of the accommodation of the Blue Star liner fitting out at John Brown's Clydebank yard in 1927. In 1929 she was renamed AVILA STAR and was lengthened on the Tyne in 1935. On 6th July 1942 on a voyage from South America to Freetown she was torpedoed and sunk off the Azores by a U-Boat. She had a sister, AVELONA/ AVELONA STAR also from Clydebank in 1927 which sadly had suffered the same fate in 1940. |
