VOLERE
VOLERE
Lauro tanker Volere, with a nice array of windsails, arriving at Palermo in 1963. Completed in 1951 by the Ansaldo yard at Genoa she was 26,000 tons deadweight which is probably why she had two 9 cylinder Fiats, as most tankers of similar size built at the time would have been turbine powered. Despite the twin engines she appears to be single screw. She was broken up at Alicante in 1972, a good life span for a tanker of that era. In the background is one of the Tirennia ferries which arrived each morning, presumably from Naples. A good-looking pair but I have forgotten their names.
