the first of two of BP's ships to bear the name. Built by Armstrong, Whitworth & Co., Newcastle, (Yard No. 892) for the British Tanker Co. July 1917. 5,796 DWT powered by a Triple expansion 3-cyl. engine manufactured by the North Eastern Marine Engineering Co. Ltd., Newcastle, 1,900 hp. Armstrongs built 5 of this design during WWI for the BTC. She survived what remained of WWI unscathed and was transferred to the British Petroleum Co. Ltd. 20.12.1917. 10.12.1920 transferred to the British Tanker Co. Ltd. Astoundingly she wasn't scrapped until July 1951
