Kiperousa aground
Kiperousa aground
On Tuesday 7 June 2005, the 25 375 ton deadweight log-carrier 'Kiperousa' ran aground near Keiskamma Point, East London, South Africa on a voyage from Gabon to the Far East.
She was headed for Durban to take on bunkers.
Despite attempts to salve the ship the weather had other plans .
Some of the 25m long hardwood log cargo destined for the Far east was salved but much was washed overboard causing danger at sea & on the beaches.
Winter storms took their toll and eventually the vessel was driven further aground and broke up completely.
Built in 1984 & of 14,921 g.t & 25,370 dwt. as the " Oriental Honey"
