Greek ferry at Piraeus in September 1978. Knowing Greek ferries I'm sure she had a history.....

... and she had but, especially under Greek Flag, rather uneventful. So...
The ship was built in England by Swan Hunter and Wigham Richardson in 1949 for the French Company SGTM (Societe` Generale de Transports Maritimes) and named "Sidi Bel Abbes". She was assigned to the line between Marseilles and Algerie (Algiers and Oran). After the Algerie independence she became a surplus and in 1963 she was sold to Greeks. The new owner was Hellenic Mediterranean Lines and she was assigned to the lines Venice - Piraeus - Famagusta (Cypus), Marseilles - Genoa - Piraeus - Haifa, Venice - Piraeus -Haifa in subsequent years spanning since 1964 up to 1988. She was withdrawn in 1988 and scrapped at Alang. When sold to the Greeks her general layout was only very little changed, apart from the internal fitting / furniture. Essentially the hold Nr. 3 was eliminated and a two level garage was created in the former hold and its corresponding tween deck while in the Nr. 3 hatchway trunk a swimming pool was created. Also a reclining seat room was created in a former 3rd class common room.
