KAITANGATA |
Crossing the Bar The Union Steam Ship Co vessel KAITANGATA crosses the Grey River bar inward bound for Greymouth on the West Coast of the South Island of New Zealand for another load of coal. The ship was built by Henry Robb Ltd of Leith, Scotland in 1948 and was in the Union Co fleet until 1968. A sister ship the KAITAWA built in 1949 by the same yard was lost with all hands ( 29 ) in 1966 in the vacinity of Cape Maria van Diemen on the west coast of the North Island of NZ in heavy weather . |
