Spillage at the Bay of Quintero, Chile |
According to a statement from the ship's manager, Greece's Empire Navigation, the 2006-built, 74,035dwt tanker was discharging crude at the Quintero SBM (single-buoy mooring) at 0350 local time on 24 September when "during a changeover of the standby tug boat, the two SBM mooring ropes parted, which caused the vessel to move away from the SBM. Due to this sudden movement, the two cargo hoses were parted and an unknown quantity of oil spilled onto the deck." |
