Designed by Graham & Woolnough, this 701 ton diesel-electric pilot tender was built by Philip & Son,Ltd.,Dartmouth, for the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board.Two 6-cylinder National 4-stroke diesels are each direct coupled to main and auxiliary generators, supplying current to a G.E.C. motor of 920 s.h.p., a 300 r.p.m. The installation allows low speeds over long periods at very economical output.Provision is made for 32 pilots. |
