6/1946 Completed by Vickers-Armstrongs Ltd., Newcastle (Yard No. 94) fot the Ministry of War Transport (A. Holt & Co. managers) as heavy lift ship "EMPIRE ATHELSTAN". 7,795 grt 4,511 net 10,450 dwt 470 x 67 x 27' Turbines (2), 6,800 shp by Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co. Ltd., Manchester. 15 knots. 5/1947 Acquired by the Ben Line Steamers of Leith and renamed "BENALBANACH". 1963 Laid up at Hartlepool. 11/1956 Sold to the Ministry of Transport (British India Steam Navigation Co. Ltd., managers) and renamed "CAMELOT". 1969 Transferred to Board of Trade Sea Transport Branch and laid up at Southampton, being sold later that year to Mercur Shipping Enterprise, Panama and renamed "DRAGON CASTLE". 1975 Sold to Cuatebol Shipping, Panama, name unchanged. 5/12/1975 Arrived at Split for breaking up by Brodospas. |
