El s?bado 4 de junio de 1983 el ALRAIGO zarp? del canal de Deusto en Bilbao tripulado por su capit?n y otras trece personas, con destino a Canarias y Casablanca cargado con mercanc?as diversas. Dos d?as m?s tarde, concretamente el lunes 6 de junio a las 11 de la noche, cuando navegaba a unas 120 millas n?uticas al sudoeste de Oporto (Portugal), s?bitamente un avi?n militar surgi? de entre la oscuridad comenzando a revolotear por encima del buque. Despu?s de dos pasadas muy bajas, la tripulaci?n, encabezada por su capit?n, Aitor Suso Linaza de 26 a?os de edad, vio con desconcierto como el aparato comenzaba a descender en vertical con la asombrosa intenci?n de acomodarse sobre la cubierta, muy cerca de las plumas.


The Saturday 4th of June of 1983, the M/V Alraigo sailed from the canal de Deusto in Bilbao manned by his captain and thirteen others, bound for the Canary Islands and Casablanca loaded with assorted goods. Two days later, specifically on Monday, June 6, at 11 in the evening, when sailing to about 120 nautical miles southwest of Porto (Portugal), suddenly a military plane emerged from the darkness beginning to flutter above the ship. Se trataba de un Sea Harrier FRS1/FA2 -ZA176, de la Royal Navy brit?nica con dos a?os de antig?edad, con esa admirable capacidad para aterrizar y despegar en vertical gracias a un sistema de propulsi?n denominado V/STOL que le ha convertido en uno de los m?s vers?tiles aviones de combate. Su piloto, percatado de una aver?a en los mandos de su aparato, no dud? en hacer descender aquellos casi 5.000 kg, repartidos en unos 14 metros de caza sobre unos contenedores, convirti?ndose as? en el primer avi?n del mundo en posarse en un buque civil navegando en alta mar. La operaci?n se desarroll? con gran limpieza en apenas 30 segundos, pos?ndose sobre los contenedores a cuya superficie se aproxim? suavemente, luego cay? violentamente y se vino un metro hacia popa; un golpe de mar hizo que se desplazara sobre una furgoneta blanca de marca Mercedes Benz que qued? seriamente abollada; solo se sinti? un fuerte impacto, pero el temor de la tripulaci?n era leg?timo puesto que, debido a este sobrepeso en cubierta que alteran los centros de gravedad y de carena del buque produciendo una variaci?n en los calados, un bandazo del barco podr?an mandar avi?n, barco y dotaci?n a pique, eso sin contar que el sobrepeso podr?a provocar alg?n tipo de grietas en el casco, y que el excesivo calor de los motores del caza tambi?n podr?a producir unos inconvenientes de grav?simo peligro. Cuando el capit?n se dio cuenta de lo que estaba pasando orden? parar las m?quinas y preparar las maniobras de salvamento y contra incendio; afortunadamente el ALRAIGO aguant? y no hubo da?os.
