ULCC specially built to serve the Whiddy Island, Bantry Bay Terminal in Ireland taken I think opening the facility in the 1970s. The first of I think 6, she was completed by IHI at Yokohama. She was broken up in 1984 as EPISKOPI. Whiddy Island was the scene of a major disaster in January 1979 when the tanker BETELGEUSE exploded during discharge killing 50 people. The terminal never fully recovered from that and gradually ceased to operate. 1980 Sold to Panathinea Episkopi Shipping SA Piraeus Greece,renamed " AVIN OIL EPISKOPI ". 1981 Renamed " HAQL ESPIKOPI ". 1984 Sold to breakers,renamed " ESPIKOPI ". 1984 BU Kaohsiung Taiwan Magazine photo in collection |
