She and her sisters "Santa Rosa", "Santa Lucia" and "Santa Elena" were built for the service from New York to the Caribbean. It was a 13-day trip from New York to Curacao, La Guaira, Aruba, Kingston, Nassau, Fort Lauderdale to New York. "Santa Lucia" and "Santa Elena" were lost in the II WW) while "Santa Paula" and "Santa Rosa" were withdrawn after 26 years of service in 1958 and sold in 1961 to the Greek shipowner Typaldos Lines. Both "Santa Paula" and "Santa Rosa" were replaced by two new ships bearing the same names and on 11th June 1958 "Santa Paula" arrived in New York and was laid-up. On this occasion the old "Santa Rosa", renamed "Santa Paula", continued for a short while until the new "Santa Paula" was delivered. The original "Santa Paula", which had her engines in bad conditions, was towed to Piraeus, repaired and took the name "Acropolis" ("Akropolis" since 1966) while her sister (1958 ex-"Santa Rosa", 1961 "Athinai" ex-"Santa Paula") took the name "Athinai". In practice at the end a curious fact happened: there were two "old" "Santa Paulas", the first and the original one built in 1932 and the second one built in 1933.
