The UNION NEW ZEALAND while not being a large vessel had a large capacity for her size mainly due to her beam and deep draft. The Camit class vessels were built with a cylindrical bow which was a modified form of the bow which had been developed by Nippon Kokan for use in much larger vessels. This type of bow form ment wake values were reduced by 10% and helped the vessels achieve 12 knot service speed.
