One of four sisters completed by Doxfords in 1952 for Overseas Tankships (UK) Ltd, otherwise known as Caltex, was the Caltex Calcutta. Only 12,340 dwt tons she was powered by a Doxford engine developing 5,150 bhp giving her a service speed of 13 knots. She spent her entire life under this name and arrived at Mihara to be broken up on 15 January 1967, fifteen years being about the average life for product tankers in those days.
As all her tank lids are open I assume this is a trials photo.
