WAN CHUN
WAN CHUN
Here photos from 1974, when the Wan Chun was stranded in 1972, here her story:
13 November 1972
During a travel in ballast of Norway to Amsterdam, the WAN CHUN stranded at five kilometres from Wijk aan Zee. The rescue workers didn't want take the ship off the range obtain the costs higher were there than the value of the ship. Salvage company A.G.Elfrink in Haarlem had bought the wreck from the owners. In January 1973 it was started digging a gutter under the ship during these activities the ship broke down. Elfrink had not lots of luck because during a storm on 5/6 November the ship dropped over at port side. On 7 April 1974 a fire probably broke out on the ship by vandalism and the ship totally burned out. On 4 April 1974 demolition company G.Kruk from Beverwijk had got the task to demolish the ship on the spot before the end of the year. The ship therefore for more then 2 years was a curiosity [sightseeing]. All crew members have been rescued save by the brigade of Wijk aan Zee and by those of IJmuiden.
