Ltd, Glasgow, 1956 as a Troopship GT 20746 Measurements 185.62 (609 ft) oa X 23.77 (78 ft) 2 Screws , propelling machinery consisting of 2 groups of 3 Steam turbines each (HP, MP, LP) Speed 18,5 Knots (reduced at 17 Knots later) As built accomodation for: 220 1st Class, 100 2nd Class, 180 3rd Class, 1000 Troops in 8 Dormitories Converted to School Ship in 1965, accomodation for 230 Cabin Class Passengers and 1090 Pupils and Staff. Pupils were accomodated in 50 dormitories of varying sizes Formally under P&O in 1972, when BI was incorporated into P&O, but with the same colours Withdrawn from service in 1975 and scrapped. |
