At Talcahuano, Chile. ARMADA DE CHILE / CHILEAN NAVY LSDH 91 Sargento Aldea Chilean Navy. Ex Name: TCD Foudre Build: 1990 Displacement at full load: 12.000 Tons Draught: 5,20 Mts. Maximun speed: 20 Knots Range: 11.000 NM at one speed of 15 Knots. Counts with hangar and can operate with three (3) helicopters simultaneously. LOA: 168 Mts. B: 23,50 Mts. Draught: 5,20 Mts. The LSDH 'Sargento Aldea' was commissioned in 1990 in the Marine Nationale of France with the name of TCD 'Foudre'. In the Gallic Navy she fulfilled actively a multitude of missions of humanitarian support in times of peace and of transport and deployment of military means in diverse operations of pacification in Europe, Africa and Asia. Her new name in our Navy pays tribute to one of the most Chilean naval heroes, the sergeant Juan de Dios Aldea Fonseca, who during the Naval Battle of Iquique, the 21st of May of 1879, it jumped to the boarding of the Huascar following to the Captain Arturo Prat, resulting in serious injuries, in consequence of which he died three days later. |
