STAR OF MALTA

Description from Shipspotting: Ex-yacht converted to passenger ferry . Used between Malta and Sicily in the 50s and early 60s. built 1925 as luxury yacht CARMARGO sold 1938 as the RAMFIS to the President of Dominican Rep. acquired in 1942 by US.Navy as the USS.MARCASITE PY-28 sold in 1944 to commercial use as the COMMANDO sold in 1947 to Maltese interests as the WESTMINSTER sold in 1952 to Laferla (malta) as the STAR OF MALTA on 29-7-1955 she struck a reef off Malta and capsized ,2 lost. She was later raised, repaired and returned to service. In 1966 she was broken up in La Spezia, Italy. Cart ed. G.C. di A.
