DANIEL WEBSTER (MTS-626) as shown being towed by Moran tugs while inbound off NOB Norfolk on September 29, 2011. Originally built as the Lafayette-class ballistic missile submarine USS DANIEL WEBSTER (SSBN-626), she decommissioned in 1990 as was struck from the naval register. She along with sister SAM RAYBURG (SSBN-635), They had their missile compartments removed (causing the reduced length). They have fully functional nuclear power plants, as they are used for training new nuclear operators. Both are based at Charleston NC and DANIEL WEBSTER is shown on her way to the Norfolk Shipyard for an overaul. She is not a commissioned ship and cannot be pefixed as USS.
